Pegasus focuses its services on the legal needs of children and youth. However, certain legal rights that benefit children and youth must be pursued through an adult. For example, education rights flow through the parent or legal guardian; proceedings for kinship guardianship of a child must be brought by the kinship care giver.

Custody matters involving adults: Pegasus does not usually get involved in custody battles between adults. When adult parents disagree over custody and timesharing, children and youth often suffer. It is up to the parent to file a motion with the court to modify custody and/or timesharing. Adult parents who believe it is in their child’s best interests to modify a parenting plan can also ask the court to appoint a guardian ad litem to make recommendations. Children and youth in these situations can call Pegasus to get advice about what they can do to affect their parents’ custody battle.
